چکیده

K Arrow’s work on social welfare proposed a set of conditions that a function to aggregate ordinal preferences of the members of a group should satisfy, proving that it was not possible to satisfy all these assumptions simultaneously. Later, Ralph Keeney adapted these conditions and proposed a cardinal utility axiomatization for the problem of aggregating the utility functions. This note discusses in particular the condition of nondictatorship. It proposes stronger formulations for this condition to limit the maximum influence that an individual can have, and it presents the corresponding characterization of compliant group cardinal utility functions. An extension to address coalitions of individuals acting strategically is also discussed.

An Axiomatization of Cumulative Prospect Theory for Decision Under Risk

Cumulative prospect theory was introduced by Tversky and Kahneman so as to combine the empirical realism of their original prospect theory with the theoretical advantages of Quiggin’s rank-dependent utility. Preference axiomatizations were provided in several papers. All those axiomatizations, however, only consider decision under uncertainty. No axiomatization has been provided as yet for deci...

A note on Wakker's Cardinal Coordinate Independence

Peter P. Wakker has forcefully shown the importance for decision theory of a condition that he called “Cardinal Coordinate Independence”. Indeed, when the outcome space is rich, he proved that, for continuous weak orders, this condition fully characterizes the Subjective Expected Utility model with a finite number of states. He has furthermore explored in depth how this condition can be weakene...

Consider the set D[a,b] of all cumulative distribution functions F(·) over some interval [a,b], and an individual whose preference ranking over this set can be represented by a real-valued preference functional V(F), in the sense that the distribution F*(·) is weakly preferred to F(·) if and only if V(F*) ≥ V(F). Note that V(·) is ordinal in the sense that some other functional V*(·) will repre...

A New Axiomatization for Likelihood Gambles

This paper studies a new and more general axiomatization than one presented in [6] for preference on likelihood gambles. Likelihood gambles describe actions in a situation where a decision maker knows multiple probabilistic models and a random sample generated from one of those models but does not know prior probability of models. This new axiom system is inspired by Jensen’s axiomatization of ...
